Virtually everybody has already tried to use at least one social media platform, be it either by a Facebook post, an Instagram story or a LinkedIn connection. These platforms (among others) became the place to be in the modern world. But do we really need to be on all of them?
Facebook was there since the beginnings of social media and is one of the longest-standing and widest-used platforms in the world. It’s the supermarket of social platforms, an all-in-one site where you can get videos of your neighbour’s dog, ads about the next big thing, livestreams of events on the other side of the globe and even online stores of your favourite local craftsmen. It seem like THE place to be – and it really is. I would recommend setting up a page to more or less any business and enterprise out there.
Instagram, on the other hand, is a bit of a more specialized site, meant primarily for sharing photos. It is true that it evolved through the years, but is still mainly a place for visuals – pictures, videos, graphics and the like. It’s users are also a bit different, as Instagram is mainly used by younger audience than Facebook.
I would recommend setting up an Instagram page if your business creates products that are visually attractive, like clothes, jewellery, handicrafts etc. It is also the place to be if your products are targeting younger consumers, especially those between the ages of 18 and 34.
LinkedIn is a social platform that, when compared to the two described above, isn’t as widespread and well-known. It is also the most specialised, as it’s meant for professionals. But even though it’s used by business-oriented users, it’s not for every business. I recommend you use it only if you seek to make new business connections.
It’s the site on which you should built connections to businesses, businessowners and professionals that interest your entrepreneurship. It’s the site on which to seek new hires and make amazing partnership. I’s also the place where you should post about that award your business got – just don’t go selling products there.
Now go shout about your business into the world of social media – just be careful to choose the right content.
